CASHING IN ON GREEN (ENERGY)!
A free public dialog explores current topics in science, technology and art, and the quarterly Lunch with Leo event switches to evening timeslot for easier access
SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 18, 2009 — On Tuesday, Dec. 8, The Leonardo and USTAR will host their first Leonardo After Hours event titled "Cashing in on Green (Energy)!" The event will run from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Olive Bistro, 50 West 200 South, Salt Lake City. Leonardo After Hours is free and open to the public. Light appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available.
Three local green technology experts will discuss what's new and what's next in the world of alternative energy-from laser wind mapping, to solar nanotechnology, to smart thermo siphons-and why our country's economic future may depend on aggressively pursuing these new technologies and techniques.
Leonardo After Hours is fast-paced, highly visual, and includes ample time for audience questions, interactions with guest experts, and mingling. Kirsten Stewart, a reporter at the Salt Lake Tribune, will serve as the emcee at this event.
Guest experts include: Bob Barson, Center for Active Sensing and Imaging (USTAR), Utah State University; Nathan Furr, Business Management Department, Brigham Young University; Dr. Kent Udell, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Utah.

Lunch with Leo Now Leonardo After Hours
The Leonardo and USTAR have been collaborating for the past year on a public program designed to bring USTAR researchers and other industry and academic experts out of their labs, workshops and studios, into a forum where the general public can learn about their work, and the exciting innovations happening right here in Utah. The organizations have evolved the program from a lunch-time, paid event called Lunch with Leo, to a free, after-work format to increase accessibility for the public. For more information, visit www.theleonardo.org.
Leonardo After Hours supporters include: the Association for Corporate Growth, Mountain West Capital Network, the Olive Bistro, Silicon Slopes, the Utah Technology Council, and the Women's Technology Council.

The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR) is a long-term, state-funded investment to strengthen Utah's "knowledge economy" and generate high-paying jobs. Funded in March 2006 by the State Legislature, USTAR is based on three program areas. The first area involves funding for strategic investments at the University of Utah and Utah State University to recruit world-class researchers. The second area is to build state-of-the-art interdisciplinary facilities at these institutions for the innovation teams. The third program area involves teams that work with companies and entrepreneurs across the State to promote science, innovation, and commercialization activities.
