The Leonardo Issues RFQ

for Major Art Installation

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 14, 2009 — The Leonardo, a science-tech-art center, has issued a request for qualifications for a site-specific art installation for its main lobby. The piece must show an understanding of the center's blend of science, technology and art, as well as its commitment to inspiring creativity and innovation in visitors.

The Leonardo welcomes submissions from artists throughout the United States. Artists who submit qualifications should be experienced in creating large-scale commission projects, and should be prepared to match their art's thematic content to The Leonardo's mission.

BUDGET

The project budget is $74,000. This amount includes all fees and expenses, including, but not limited to: materials, equipment costs, fees, labor, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, and, as needed, any additional engineering review and work.

TIMELINE

The deadline for submissions is February 8, 2010, at 5 p.m. MST. A committee will review all complete applications during February and March 2010, and select three finalists, who will receive a stipend to create a specific proposal, as well as a travel reimbursement.

The committee will announce the winning artist no later than June 15, 2010. The selected artist will then have approximately seven months to work on the piece, with installation in The Leonardo to commence by Jan. 15, 2011. Installation must be complete by the end of February 2011, in preparation for The Leonardo's April 2011 opening.
