Sorenson Legacy Foundation Donates $600,000 to The Leonardo
SALT LAKE CITY, April 30, 2010 -- The Leonardo announced today that the Sorenson Legacy Foundation has donated $600,000 to the science-tech-art center "in support of programs and exhibits."
"This gift from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation is an important investment in the project, and a major catalyst toward completing the final phase of the capital campaign," said Peter Giles, The Leonardo's executive director. "We deeply appreciate the foundation's continued support of both The Leonardo and the broader community."
The Leonardo will open on April 15, 2011, in the old main library building in downtown Salt Lake City. Even before opening, the center has brought educational outreach, community events, and even major exhibitions like BODY WORLDS to the city, state and region.
"The Sorenson Legacy Foundation is pleased to offer its support of this important project," said James Lee Sorenson, a trustee with the foundation. "We appreciate The Leonardo's dedication to supporting education, art and science, and are particularly excited to be part of bringing this educational center to Utah."
The Sorenson Legacy Foundation is a non-profit corporation established by the James LeVoy Sorenson family for the purpose of promoting charitable, artistic, religious, educational, literary and scientific endeavors. The foundation is based in Salt Lake City.
