In-Depth Workshops are available M-F during the school year. Self-guided tours are available M-F. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All field trips must be booked at least one week in advance.
Field trips are available to accredited public, charter, and private K-12 schools. Homeschool groups are welcome to attend under the same policies and procedures as traditional schools.
Before booking a field trip, please review the field trip policies below. To book a field trip to The Leonardo, call 801-531-9800 ext. 131 or email education@theleonardo.org. Please include the following information in your email or have it ready when you call:
• School name and address
• Contact teacher name, with a phone number and email address where they can be reached during the school year and during the summer.
• Number of students
• Grade and subject of students
• Preferred dates and times (have 2 or 3 dates and times in mind in case your first choice is not available)
• What type of field trip you would like (self-guided or in-depth workshop). If you are booking a workshop, know which workshop you would like to book.
Your field trip reservation is not final until you receive a confirmation email.
Self-guided field trip: $4.00 per student
In-depth workshop: $5.50 per student
Self-guided field trip + in-depth workshop: $6.50 per student
Chaperones are free at the ratios listed below. Additional adults are $7 each.
All schools must abide by these policies.
Payment
Field trips must be paid in full in advance. Payment can also be made before the visit. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card.
Chaperones
Students must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times. Chaperones must be 21 or older and must stay with the students. They should help students get the most out of the field trip by assisting in activities, encouraging good behavior, and handling any discipline problems.
For self-guided field trips, you must provide one chaperone for every 12 students. Active engagement for the duration of the visit is essential.
One chaperone is required for every 15 students for in-depth workshops.
Additional adults booked with a field trip reservation will be charged a reduced admission price. Additional adults who show up on the day of the field trip but are not paid for with the field trip reservation will pay the general admission price.
Group Size
Minimum group size: 12 students
Maximum group size for self-guided field trips is 60 students. The maximum size for workshops is 35 students per class. The maximum for a workshop plus a self-guided field trip is 60 students.
Behavior
Students are expected to participate fully in the activities and be respectful of themselves, other students and museum visitors, The Leonardo staff, exhibits, and property. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for encouraging good behavior and taking care of any discipline problems. The Leonardo reserves the right to ask misbehaving students to leave and a chaperone must supervise them on the bus or arrange for transportation home.
Special Needs
Please inform us of any special needs when scheduling your field trip. If you have any students with severe disabilities, plan to bring a dedicated chaperone to assist them in the activities. This chaperone will not count toward the chaperone ratio mentioned above.
Lunch
The Leonardo has limited space for lunch for those groups participating in a workshop. you must request it when scheduling your field trip. Schools must bring their own lunches and make the request in your original booking.
Photo Release
Photos may be taken during your field trip to be used for evaluation or marketing purposes. If there are any students in the group who have a legal reason not to have their photo taken, please inform the lead facilitator when your group arrives. Otherwise, by participating in a field trip, all participants give permission for their photos to be used by The Leonardo. We will inform you if your field trip can expect to have their photos taken. No photography is permitted in the Mummies of the World exhibit.
Buses and Parking
There is a drop-off zone on the east side (going north) of 200 E. where buses can drop off students. Free street parking for buses and chaperone cars is available 1 block south of The Leonardo on 600 S. between 200 E. and 400 E. Parking for chaperone cars is also available in the underground parking garage (entrance on 400 S.). Validations can be purchased at the ticket desk at a rate of $3 for 3 hours.
