The Leo on Wheels:
The Leo on Wheels visits middle schools in Utah to engage students in science with interactive exhibits and inquiry-based activities. Students develop critical thinking skills and creativity as they learn about energy, force, and motion.
Bringing Hands-on Science to Utah's Students and Teachers!
The Leo on Wheels is an educational outreach program that travels to middle schools throughout Utah, serving nearly 14,000 students each year. It integrates science core content with 21st century thinking skills through hands-on, inquiry based activities which foster critical thinking, creativity and innovation. Thanks to our sponsors, the visits are free to Utah public schools.
During each visit, interactive activities and hands-on inquiry assignments will focus around the school's choice of one of the following themes:
• Energy
• Forces in Motion
The interactive visits and two education specialists stay at each school for a week. Each participating class visits the program twice and teachers have the opportunity to lead related activities in the classroom between and after the visits. The Leo on Wheels serves primarily 8th grade science classes, but may also be adapted for other intermediate grades if there is time in the schedule.
Community Night
In addition to the school day program, each visit from The Leo on Wheels includes a Community Night. The event is a two-hour open house held one evening during the visit which extends The Leo on Wheels experience to parents, community leaders and the public. Community Nights provide fun and educational experiences to the community while increasing awareness and support for the school.
Check The Leonardo's calendar of events for a Community Night near you.
