Exhibit Preview: Static Electricity

Rubbing dissimilar objects against each other can build up a static charge, like your shoes (rubber) on some shag carpet (wool). If the charge is great enough, it will get released (discharged) in a spark.

Static Electricity

This exhibit will literally make your hair stand on end. When you work with this exhibit you can build up an electric charge on the Van de Graaff generator. Electricity always flows through the path of least resistance, which may be your body if you are standing close enough! This electrifying exhibit is a favorite among all age levels.
