Crossroads Community Dialog Series
RESPONDING TO «EXODUS»:
A COMMUNITY-BASED DIALOGUE ON FAITH, ART, AND HUMAN RIGHTS
To engage our community in the global vision of Sebastião Salgado’s exhibit “Exodus,” the Center for Documentary Arts is hosting a series of community-based dialogues called “Crossroads.” These presentations will feature six dialogues in which educators and religious leaders informally explore the interface between faith, art, and human rights.
These community-based dialogues will respond to the photographs in “Exodus” and are intended to elicit a deeper sense of community across our differences. Speakers representing Utah’s religious and educational communities will present their viewpoints and engage community members in dialogue.
TIME: 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm, unless otherwise stated
COST: Free
LOCATION: The Leonardo at Library Square, 209 East 500 South

Film Series
During the Salgado exhibit, the SLC Film Center will be screening a biographical film of the artist, as well as a series of short films that feature his images put to music.
Workers: Looking Back At You
Directed by Andrew Snell, this film chronicles Salgado’s first long-term documentary project “Workers,” which portrays the sweeping changes in the role of labor in the twentieth century, as well as the impact of Salgado's photographs on twentieth century photojournalism.
Spectre of Hope
In this film Sebastião Salgado joins celebrated British novelist and art critic John Berger in an intimate conversation about the images in “Exodus.” The 52 minute documentary, directed by Paul Carlin, captures Salgado’s and Berger’s animated conversation about the exhibit’s impact and import. It is a probing dialogue that resonates in the mind of the viewer long after it has been watched.
Genesis
Genesis will provide a sneak preview of Salgado’s most recent and, purportedly, final seven year odyssey exploring man’s broken contract with nature, as well as evoking the remaining places on earth where land and animals continue to exist as they have since the beginning of time.
