BRING TO YOUR SCHOOL

The Leonardo on Wheels-Science is flexible to most scheduling considerations at host schools. The program best serves students in grades 7-9.

SPACE

The Leonardo on Wheels-Science exhibits require approximately 1,500-2,000 square feet of space. Typically we set up in your school's library/media center, auditorium or gymnasium. The exhibit area needs to have electrical outlets. Once exhibits are set up, they will need to stay up for the duration of the visit.

TIME

A Leonardo on Wheels-Science visit lasts three to five days, depending on how many students are at your school. Minimum visit time is 3 days. Leonardo on Wheels-Science staff will arrive 90 minutes before the first class period starts to set up the exhibits on the first day of the visit.  All exhibits will be removed after school on the last day of the visit.

VOLUNTEERS

The Leonardo on Wheels—Science will arrive with two motivated staff members, but the true success of a visit depends on the involvement of parents, PTA members, and other local volunteers.

Host schools are asked to provide 2-3 volunteers to serve as guides to students in completing their My Leonardo Notebooks on Guided Discovery Days.

COST

The cost for a Leonardo on Wheels-Science visit is $3,000. Thanks to sponorship from the Utah State Office of Education and generous donors, the actual cost to your school can be significantly reduced or even eliminated.

In an effort to bring the Utah Science Center to all schools, the Leonardo on Wheels-Science staff can work with local businesses and foundations to secure funding to help offset the cost to your school. Contact LaraLee Smith (801) 531-9800 if you are interested in this option.

COMMUNITY NIGHTS

In addition to the school day program a Leonardo on Wheels-Science visit includes a Community Night. One evening during the week Leonardo on Wheels-Science staff open up the exhibits for parents, siblings and members of the community. Many schools like to utilize Community Nights to showcase what their students are doing or learning at school. The cost for a Community Night is included in the price of a visit.
