WHAT IS THE LEONARDO ON WHEELS —SCIENCE ?

The Leonardo on Wheels-Science is a traveling science center designed to help students learn, and help teachers teach. All activities support Utah State Office of Education Math and Science Core Curriculum Standards for intermediate school students (grades 7 - 9). A visit from the outreach program is a far more substantive experience than the typical school assembly demonstration.

The Science component of The Leonardo on Wheels-Science program will assist Utah's teachers and students in developing and expanding their skills, and learning the core objectives defined by the Utah State Office of Education.

Although The Leonardo on Wheels—Science and the Utah Science Center emphasize science and technology, they are also very committed to integrating art and science. This commitment to integration is illustrated via a Leonardo Notebook activity, which every student who participates in the outreach program completes. The Notebook activity involves sketching, drawing and note taking, which facilitates observation and formulation of questions and hypotheses. Art facilitating science!

EXHIBITS

The Leonardo on Wheels—Science brings 12-15 interactive science exhibits to a school for three to five days. Each exhibit functions as a self-contained, mini experiment station and teaches a scientific principal related to the Utah Core Curriculum Standards.  Not only that, they're really fun!

Resource 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci left a legacy of innovation that spanned science, technology, art, and culture in his search for understanding and creativity. He brought observations and ideas together in his notebooks. As a part of their first day with the exhibits, each student will receive their own Leonardo Notebook. A Leonardo Notebook is part sketchpad, part lab notebook, and part journal. It allows the student to truly become part of The Leonardo on Wheels—Science adventure by sketching, observing, formulating questions and hypothesizing.
